The following accounts were taken from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident reports:

2 arrested in
theft at store

Two men were arrested after trying to steal a security system from the Grovetown Wal-Mart.

Cody Beasley and Barry Tabor were arrested on larceny charges Friday after the store’s loss-prevention employee called police.

The employee told deputies that a man, later identified as Beasley, was seen passing the registers with a Swann security system. When Beasley was confronted in the parking lot he set the item on the ground and got into a green car and drove away.

The employee then saw Tabor pick up the security system and yelled at him to leave it alone, but Tabor got inside a red pickup truck with the system.

Tabor then circled the parking lot before police arrived and stopped him, at which time the security system was found in the front seat of his vehicle. Police also discovered an HTC mobile phone on Tabor; it was later identified as stolen during a previous incident.

Beasley was arrested after being stopped and was taken back to the store, where the employee identified him as the man who took the security system. Tabor and Beasley were booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.

Men say knifing was no big deal

Two men who were involved in a stabbing told police it was “not anything serious.”

Eric Fields told police he and Zachary Mawby got involved in a fight. Fields said he punched Mawby before Mawby pulled a knife and cut him. Fields received seven stitches at Doctors Hospital for a cut on the palm of his hand. Fields refused to provide any other information about the incident. Mawby told police Fields hit him in the head and that he pulled the knife and cut Fields’ hand in self-defense. Mawby sustained a laceration and a knot on his forehead. Both Mawby and Fields refused to press charges.
