The following accounts were taken from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident reports:

Spa attacker ID still unkown

Almost three weeks after an attack on a Martinez day spa employee, authorities said Friday they are awaiting crime lab results to help identify the man who raped, beat and robbed a Martinez day spa employee.

“We are hoping that will produce some new leads and direction we can focus the investigation,” said Capt. Andy Shedd, of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. “As of right now we have followed up on every tip and lead we have received and have not yet identified a suspect.”

According to police, two employees reported being attacked May 22 during a robbery at the South Belair Road business by a man they did not know.

The women told police a man came in about 5 p.m. and knocked on a door. When one of the women opened the door he forced his way in, causing her to fall and lose consciousness.

After stealing cash, the man raped the other woman. The attacker was seen leaving the scene in a dark car, possibly a Toyota Scion. The attacker is wanted on charges of burglary, aggravated sodomy, rape and robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (706) 541-3907 or (706) 541-2800.

Odd package raises alarm

A bomb squad and an FBI agent responded to the Jewish Community Center Monday in regards to a suspicious package. According to the report, an unknown package was sent to a Louisville,Ga. post office box with the Augusta Jewish Community Center’s return address.

The center’s director became concerned after none of the staff had any knowledge of a package. When the post office said the recipient refused delivery, the center’s director contacted FBI.

The Richmond County Bomb Squad and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were also called.

The investigation found that the package contained a Jewish prayer book that a member had mailed to an inmate in Louisville, where the package had been refused.
