The following accounts were taken from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident reports:

Man found unconscious

Deputies responded to two calls of the same man passed out in public Friday night.

The manager of a Martinez grocery store called authorities after finding a man unconscious in the store’s restroom.

The manager of the Food Lion at 365 S. Belair Road said he found a man unconscious in a bathroom stall at about 7 p.m. The man said he went to the bathroom before shopping and must have fallen asleep.

Deputies escorted the man off the property and told him not to return.

At about 12:30 a.m., an employee of the nearby Circle K on South Belair Road at South Old Belair Road said she found the same man lying unconscious in the parking lot.

When she tried to wake the man, she said, he started vomiting. The employee turned the man on his side and called authorities.

A deputy couldn’t wake the man, who smelled of alcohol and had an abrasion on the back of his head. He was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for evaluation.

The employee couldn’t tell deputies if the man was involved in a fight or if he passed out and hit his head because he was intoxicated. She was going to check with her manager the next morning to see view video surveillance footage of the parking lot.

Balloon left
in mailbox

A Martinez woman called authorities Saturday after finding a balloon filled with an unknown liquid inside her mailbox at 10:45 a.m. She said she didn’t know when the balloon was put in her mailbox, but it had to be between 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday morning.

Couple held, threatened

A couple in Martinez said a man they knew held them in their home with a handgun Sunday afternoon.

A 25-year-old man and his girlfriend told deputies they woke just before 1 p.m. to find a man they knew as Roger with a handgun in their bedroom demanding his property.

Roger shot into the ceiling and made the woman go into another room while he went through their book bags. The boyfriend jumped out of a window, ran to a neighbor’s house and called authorities.

The woman said she spoke to Roger and he left in a dark vehicle.

Deputies found a .9 mm shell casing in the back bedroom of the home.
