Man threatens roommate with knife to throat

Posted: December 12, 2012 - 12:21am

The following account was taken from reports from The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Man threatens roommate with knife to throat

An inebriated man who held a knife to his roommate’s throat and threatened to kill him early Sunday was hospitalized for injuries sustained earlier that night.

The Martinez man had been out drinking Saturday, his girlfriend said.

When the couple returned to the 4500 block of Plantation Road, the man started yelling at his male roommate about a leaking water heater that had soaked the floor.

The woman went to sleep and was awakened by her boyfriend, who had a cut and began yelling and cursing at her.

She saw her boyfriend holding what looked like a knife to the roommate’s throat.

The woman ran from the home after her boyfriend tried to get her to come inside.

The roommate said he and the man started drinking together at the house after the woman went to bed.

When the man went to wake up his girlfriend, he slipped and hit a side table, causing him to bleed. He became hostile and grabbed a knife, pressing it against the roommate’s throat and then bit the roommate’s cheek.

The roommate calmed the man down and took the knife, but he soon became violent again. The roommate then called 911.

When authorities and paramedics arrived, the man was bleeding heavily from his wrist and other cuts. He was extremely intoxicated and combative with emergency responders.

The man was taken to the hospital. Warrants for aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime were issued.

Man attempts home break-in

An Evans woman called authorities Friday after a man grabbed her arm through the pet door while trying to break into her home.

The 31-year-old woman said that at about 8:30 a.m., she heard a knock on her front door at the 400 block of Rachel Drive. When she walked to the door, no one was there.

She saw her cats running from the garage and noticed a man in the garage opening a toolbox and a file cabinet.

The man found a key and tried to open the garage door. When that didn’t work, he tried to unlock the door by reaching through the pet door.

The man grabbed the homeowner, whose arm was holding the door shut. He apologized to her before running off.

Vehicles stolen from Martinez auto dealership

Two vehicles that were shown to two men Thursday at the Master Buick GMC dealership on Washington Road were reported stolen the next day.

A sales representative showed the men a 2009 Yukon Denali and a 2007 Cadillac DTS at the dealership.

Neither were test driven. The men asked only to look under the hood and have the vehicles turned on.

The sales representative realized keys to the vehicles were taken while he was distracted by one of the men.

Overnight, the vehicles were stolen.

An attempt to steal another vehicle at a Martinez lot on Washington Road also was reported Friday morning.

The owner of CSRA Motor Sports said that someone tried to steal a 1990 Toyota Tacoma truck overnight Thursday, leaving it badly damaged.

The truck’s dash was almost completely removed as was the interior lighting. The ignition lock and cylinder also were damaged.

A pair of sunglasses, a latex glove and wrench were found left inside the vehicle.

Men pull scam on cashier

Two men tricked Walmart cashiers twice last week by paying with a $100 bill and then getting the employee to give back more money.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the men brought a bottle of water to the cashier and paid with a $100 bill. They would confuse the cashier by asking for different change several times.

The duo walked out with $100 on the first day and $125 on the second day.

The suspects were both described as black with heavy builds. One man was said to be bald, 6 feet tall and in his 40s. The other man was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and in his late 30s.

Man arrested for trafficking drugs

An Evans man was charged Friday with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of other drugs.

At his Old Evans Road home, Albert Davidson Blackstone III, 30, was found with 21 bags that contained about 51 grams of meth.

Blackstone also had four vials of steroids, 17 Alprazolam pills and $527 in cash.

Blackstone is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center without bond.
