Man arrested for robbing cousin
A man was charged with armed robbery Wednesday after trying to hold up his cousin at gun point.
A 30-year-old said his cousin, Elton Jamar Harrison, 21, of the 200 block of Watkins Street, came up to him at about 11 p.m. Tuesday as he was walking to his vehicle at the 3100 block of McCladdie Drive in Appling.
The man said Harrison ran toward him with a handgun and said “give it up.” When the man asked what he meant, Harrison fired the gun next to his head.
Harrison chased the man around a vehicle until the man’s sister came outside. Harrison then ran from the house.
Harrison is being held without bond at the Columbia County Detention Center, where he is also charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Fight between siblings leads to knife-throwing
A Grovetown man was arrested Wednesday after he and his younger sister fought and a knife was thrown.
Christopher Bryan Powell, 20, was charged with simple assault for fighting with his sister at his mother’s house on the 1100 block of Rolland Road, where he also lives.
An argument between the two broke out at about 10 p.m. when Powell’s sister went to confront him about a comment he made, and struck Powell with the bedroom door.
The girl and their mother said Powell got angry and started strangling his sister, who temporarily lost consciousness in the kitchen.
After that fight ended, the girl threw a knife at Powell’s head, but missed. She went into the den, where Powell picked up the knife and threw it back at her. The knife hit the wall and broke.
Powell said he never threw the knife nor strangled his sister. Authorities found dark abrasions on the girl’s neck.
After being taken to and released from Doctors Hospital, Powell was taken to jail and is being held without bond.
His sister was issued a complaint form for simple assault and was released into the custody of her mother.
