Dean sent to Savannah prison

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office released Scott Dean to the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections on Thursday.

Dean, convicted in December on two counts of child molestation, was sent to Coastal State Prison in Savannah, according to an e-mail from sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

Coastal State Prison is one of two diagnostic centers in Georgia where convicted felons are evaluated, then given a permanent prison assignment.

Student indicted in murder plot

A Greenbrier High School student was recently indicted for conspiring with another to kidnap and kill a classmate.

A Columbia County grand jury indicted Christian Reed Adams Annis, 17, of McDuffie County, on conspiracy to commit murder, according to court documents released Thursday.

When he was arrested on Oct. 28, Annis told deputies that his 15-year-old girlfriend asked him to help kill another student. Another Greenbrier student enlisted to help in the plot informed school officials, who called police.

Sentencing hearing set for ex-commissioner

A sentencing hearing has been set next week for a former Columbia County commissioner and Harlem mayor convicted last month of molesting his adopted daughter.

Scott Dean, 42, was found guilty Dec. 16 on two counts of child molestation. His sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 27, according to a listing on Superior Court Judge James G. Blanchard’s calendar.

Dean faces five to 20 years for each count, Assistant District Attorney Parks White said.
