State of the Community banquet Thursday

A panel of Columbia County leaders from areas of education, business, Fort Gordon, and Harlem and Grovetown will gather to address the state of the county Thursday.

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Development Authority of Columbia County and the Convention and Visitors Bureau, will hold its seventh annual State of the Community Address at the exhibition center in Grovetown.

Panel members scheduled to speak are Board of Education chairman David Dekle, Grovetown Mayor Gary Jones, Harlem Mayor Bobby Culpepper, Board of Commissioners Chairman Ron Cross, county deputy administrator Matt Schlachter, Fort Gordon Garrison Commander Col. Todd Turner and SRS Community Reuse Organization President Rick McLeod.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with a business expo and a barbecue dinner provided by Shane's Rib Shack.

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. and community leaders will give an update on the future growth, and goals of Columbia County and the region.
