A 19-year-old is behind bars and facing arson charges after reportedly setting a Popeyes Chicken restaurant trashcan on fire.

According to reports, Ayinde Mahari Diop-West entered the Martinez restaurant around 9 p.m. and spit on the floor. The manager told police Diop-West was acting "belligerent and strange."

The manager said Diop-West followed her to the bathroom, when she confronted him about his behavior, according to the incident report. Diop-West then apologized to her and threw what was later identified as marijuana on the floor. When the manager entered the bathroom, Diop-West continued to follow her, so she immediately exited the bathroom.

Moments later, the manager said Diop-West ran out of the bathroom and left the business, where he continued to harass customers in the restaurant's drive-thru. The manager said she returned to the bathroom where she found the bathroom trashcan on fire. She immediately grabbed the trashcan and threw it outside of the business, and then called police.

Upon arrival, police stated that they detected drug use, due to Diop-West's mood swings, and contacted medical services for an evaluation. Diop-West was treated at Doctors Hospital before being booked into the Columbia County Detention Center and charged with third-degree arson.
