Columbia County residents have been invited to attend a public information open house, Thursday, Feb. 2, regarding the expansion of the Lewiston Road corridor.

The county's engineering services division will conduct the informal open house at the New Life Church Gateway Campus located at 215 Lewiston Rd. in Grovetown from 6-8 p.m. There will be no formal presentations, according to a news release from the county, however the community is encouraged to attend to view the proposed design, ask questions and offer comments for the project.

The proposed project is being locally administered by Columbia County and is funded through the Transportation Investment Act of 2010.

The project proposes to widen SR 388/Lewiston Road from Interstate 20 to SR 232/Columbia Road from the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane, median divided roadway with varying locations of turn lanes.

Pedestrian and bicycle accommodations will be provided throughout the corridor, using either on-street bicycle facilities with sidewalks or a shared-use path.

The existing I-20/SR 388 diamond interchange will be converted to a diverging diamond interchange.

The overall project length is approximately 2.5 miles.

The meeting sites are accessible to persons with disabilities. Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advanced notice by calling Hope Marshall at (706) 447-7600.
