A dump truck rolled over on Columbia Road near Ivy Falls Wednesday after the driver lost control and veered onto the shoulder to avoid stalled traffic.

Traffic on Columbia Road was bottlenecked after a dump truck rolled over Wednesday afternoon.

Motorists were forced to use one lane as emergency personnel removed the truck and debris at the scene near Ivy Falls.

Joshua John James, 36, was driving a dump truck from Pete Bale Trucking of Dearing, Ga., east on Columbia Road at about 3:15 p.m., when he came over a hill to find stopped traffic. Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy Bobby Bradford said James, of Warrenton, Ga., couldn’t stop in time, so he veered onto the right shoulder to avoid hitting vehicles.

Once on the shoulder, James lost control and the truck rolled onto it side, spilling much of the 18 tons of asphalt it was carrying.

James sustained only minor injuries. He was cited for traveling too fast for conditions.
