An early-morning fire destroyed a Martinez warehouse over the weekend.
A fire alarm at about 3 a.m. Sunday alerted firefighters to the large blaze at Augusta Linen Services and Rental at 3825 Martinez Blvd., according to Columbia County Fire Rescue Batt. Chief Danny Kuhlmann.
Firefighters, who smelled smoke when they arrived on the scene, forced their way into the warehouse area of the business and found it engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but it extensively damaged the warehouse, Kuhlmann said. Office and a retail area were not damaged.
No one was at the business at the time of the fire.
The state Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. Kuhlmann said no foul play is suspected as he saw no one on the business surveillance video footage at or around the time of the fire. The linen company is still open for business.
