Bojangles’ franchise owner Tim Biakabutuka opened his fourth restaurant in the metro Augusta market.
The former National Football League player opened a 3,800-square-foot store Monday at 4544 Washington Road in Evans, just past the Wal-Mart Supercenter. The new restaurant has about 40 employees.
“That area is just a tremendous area, and the demographics there are probably the strongest in the CSRA as we’ve seen so far,” Biakabutuka said.
The former running back for the University of Michigan and Carolina Panthers entered the Bojangles’ franchise system in 2008 when he purchased and renovated the Walton Way restaurant. He also owns two Bojangles in Martinez, at 3852 Wash-ington Road and at 343 S. Belair Road.
Biakabutuka said he plans to add two more within the next 1½ years.
“The hard part is finding a site that has all the variables that we’re looking for,” he said. “We’re looking in North Augusta. We’re looking around Augusta near Tobacco Road. We’re looking in Columbia County as well.”
The area’s other Bojangles’ franchisee, Pat Landon, operates four restaurants and is opening two more by the end of 2014. The first will open in August at 123 Simple Savings Drive in Aiken, and his second is to open later this year on Wrightsboro Road.
Bojangles’ was founded in 1977 in Charlotte, N.C. There are 600 restaurants, primarily in the Southeast.
