An Evans man was shot in the leg early Monday after four people tried to rob him outside his apartment.
Jamal Antwan Fielding, 25, was sitting on a bench behind the clubhouse at Westwood Club Apartments on Washington Road at about midnight when four people – two men and two women – approached brandishing a black automatic pistol and pointed it at Fielding, he said. They demanded cash and jewelry, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
When he refused, one of the men shot Fielding in the thigh. The group ran away without taking anything, Morris said.
Fielding described his assailants as a two black men and two black women. One man wore a dark T-shirt with a cross and ball cap, and the other man wore a black tank top. He had a larger gold chain with a cross, and gold teeth. The two women appeared to be in their late teens, Fielding said. One with a lighter complexion wore a light-colored T-shirt, and the other was darker complexioned, had her hair in a bun and wore tight shorts.
After the shooting, Fielding ran to his apartment, where his fiancee called 911, Morris said. His injuries are not life-threatening, officials said.
