Workers prepare to upright a crane truck after it overturned near the intersection of New Savannah Road and Skyview Drive early Wednesday.

A Grovetown man died after being trapped under an overturned truck hauling a crane Wednesday morning.
Eryc Jordan Riddle, 28, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pinned under the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene. Riddle was wearing a seatbelt, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Police said the Erycson Crane truck rolled onto its side about 7:40 a.m. after trying to turn left onto New Savannah Road from Skyview Drive.

The incident is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release. The intersection was closed while crews removed the wreckage.

The driver of the truck had “minor injuries,” Bowen said. An autopsy was scheduled at the Atlanta GBI Crime Lab on Thursday.

Staff Writer Doug Stutsman contributed to this report.
