The driver of a motorcycle scooter died Friday after his vehicle slammed into the side of a tractor trailer on Belair Road.

A Martinez man died Friday after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a tractor trailer.

Dalton Lee Brown, 20, of North Belair Road, was driving his motorcycle scooter west on Columbia Road near Belair Road
when he lost control, according to Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy David Herrity. The motorcycle veered across a turn lane and an oncoming lane of traffic before hitting the rear tires of an eastbound Maner Building Supply Co. tractor trailer.

Brown was a 2011 Thomson High School graduate and worked at Kroger.

He was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center where he was
pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m., according to Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.

The truck driver, James Edward Roundtree, 47, of Augusta, wasn’t injured.
