During a week when golf is king in the Augusta area, several Columbia County camps are available for children to enjoy.

Whether they are artistic or athletic, there are plenty of options to spice up a week off from school.

“They don’t just want to sit around,” said Cricket Willis, owner of Artsy Me Ceramic and Art Studio in Evans.

The studio offers three classes during Masters Week focusing on different artistic mediums. The classes are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for children second grade and up.

Monday’s class is hand-building clay. The Wednesday class focuses on glass fusing and children can paint with acrylic paints on canvas on Friday. The cost is $25 per class and children can sign up for one or all of the classes. Children should bring a sack lunch.

The studio also offers extended hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday for anyone, children or adults, who’d like to come in without an appointment to paint ceramics or fuse glass.

For more information or to book a class, call (706) 432-6396 or visit www.artsymestudio.com.

More athletic children will enjoy Sports Academy South’s Youth Spring Break Camp in Grovetown.

“They’ll play every game under the sun,” said President/CEO and Director Sam Lilly.

The second annual spring break camp will feature lots of games from volleyball, flag football and dodgeball to tumbling, track and field and video game tournaments.

“They have a lot of fun,” Lilly said.

The camp runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday with early drop-off at 7 a.m. and late pick-up at 5:30 p.m. at no extra cost. A hot breakfast and lunch and a T-shirt are provided.

Lilly said the camp, to be held at Liberty Park Community Center in Grovetown, will include some special events like a movie day and possibly some fun water slides on Friday.

The camp, for boys and girls 5-15, cost $110 for the week and $100 for each additional sibling. Children can attend single days for $30 each.

Pre-registration isn’t necessary, but can be done at Liberty Park 6-9 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Applications also are available at www.SportsAcademySouth.com or by contacting Lilly at (706) 495-6663 or SamuelLillyIV@yahoo.com.
