A desire to teach and help others comes naturally to Augusta Christian STAR student Kyle Cartledge. His career plan is to follow in the footsteps of his mother, Laura Cartledge, who teaches sixth grade at Stallings Island Middle School.
“He was in first grade when I began teaching” said Laura Cartredge. “He has been attending school dances and school events with me since he was a child.”
Sarah White, Cartledge’s physics teacher and his choice for STAR teacher, confirms his desire to help other students.
“I think he’ll do a great job (as a teacher), says White. “He’s very good at explaining concepts. He’ll have friends in the class who struggle with something and he’ll reach over and explain what we’ve been going over.”
“He’s a great student. His integrity and character go beyond the classroom,” says White.
There is definitely mutual admiration between student and teacher.
“We both share a love for math,” says Cartledge as he explains why he selected Ms. White as his STAR teacher. “She explains concepts really well. She is one of the best math teachers I’ve had.”
Cartledge plans to attend Georgia Regents University in the fall and study middle grades education. Just to hedge his bets, though, he plans to study chemical engineering as well.
He has been a member of the school’s Quiz Bowl Team since his freshman year and also has served on the student council. He also plays on the school’s baseball team and was on the Martinez Evans Senior League team that went to the World Series last summer.
