Columbia County schools will remain closed Thursday, due to persistent icy conditions on area roads, officials announced this morning.

Officials also said school employees, including twelve month personnel, should not report to work Thursday and that all school system activities and events would be canceled.

All Columbia County government offices are closed today as well.

More information will be made available Thursday about the possible closings or delays for Friday.

A rare winter storm dumped about 2 inches of snow across most of the county Tuesday evening, with accumulations above that in some areas. All county roads were open this morning, but icy conditions were widespread and officials urged residents to stay off roadways unless it was absolutely necessary.

You can make up one of those

You can make up one of those school days by making the kids go to school the Monday after Masters week. There is absolutely no reason what so ever for the kids to be out of school that day.
