Grovetown festival benefits breast cancer research

Posted: October 23, 2013 - 12:00am

Grovetown is holding a festival Friday to benefit breast cancer awareness, education and research.

The second annual Pink Friday for the Cure, for the World event will be 5-10 p.m. Friday at Liberty Park Community Center on Newmantown Road.

“I’m excited,” Grovetown Community Events Manager Jennifer Evans said.

Proceeds from the event benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Evans said the event will feature a 5K run/walk. The entry fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt. Participants can pre-register or do so at the event.

Briana Tyson, a 2011 American Idol contestant who performed at the 2012 Pink Friday event, will return to perform again.

“She did great last year,” Evans said.

Families can enjoy arts, crafts and food vendors as well as inflatables, a climbing wall and pony rides.

There will be a raffle for prizes including themed gift baskets, Evans said.

Breast cancer-themed luminary bags also will be sold. The event is free.

To register for the 5K or as a volunteer or vendor, visit the document center of the city’s Web site, www.cityofgrovetown.com. For more information, call Evans at (706) 860-7691 or jevans@grovetownga.us.
