Emergency personnel treat Columbia County Sheriff's Office bicycle Deputy Kevin Center, left, after he was hit by a minivan Thursday afternoon.

A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office bicycle deputy wasn’t seriously injured Thursday when he was hit by a minivan on Washington Road.

Deputy Kevin Center and his partner were riding bicycles along Washington Road near Lowe’s at about 3 p.m. when they tried to cross Washington Road to respond to a vehicle wreck, according to sheriff’s Capt. Sharif Chochol.

Yasmill Ramirez, 37, of Windmill Lane in Evans, was driving west and didn’t see Center. She hit him with her Toyota minivan.

Center sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his right arm and right leg. He was taken to the Georgia Regents Medical Center, Sgt. A.J. Lyons said.

Ramirez will not be charged, Lyons said.
