Patrons at some Columbia County parks and buildings will soon have easier access to cash.
Commissioners are expected to vote Tuesday to place ATM machines at several county facilities.
“At Evans Towne Center Park, we’ve had multiple folks ask for ATM machines during events,” Community and Leisure Services Division Director Barry Smith said at a recent committee meeting.
The machines are slated to be placed at the park, at the Evans Government Center Building C, Patriots Park, Savannah Rapids Pavilion, the Columbia County Justice Center and Courthouse Annex and the Exhibition Center at the Gateway. An ATM machine that has been inside the lobby of the Columbia County Library in Evans for a few years will remain.
Smith said he recommended Cash Ready ATM Inc., of the two bids received, to provide the machines because they charge
a lower transaction fee, $2.50, to the customer. The company also pays more to the county – between 50 cents and $1.50
per transaction, depending on the number of transactions at each machine.
“The longer they are there, the more revenue we receive,” Smith said.
Cash Ready will own and maintain the machines, so the county assumes no liability for damage or theft. Smith said he expects the machines to be installed less than two weeks after approval Tuesday.
