Grovetown officials filled an open seat on its city council at Monday’s monthly meeting, replacing a councilman who resigned in April.
Lee Briggs, a John Deere operations manager, was appointed to fill the remaining term of Sonny McDowell. who resigned in April after being convicted of federal bribery charges.
City officials considered three candidates at the July meeting, but opted to meet with them in late July before making the appointment.
“All of the candidates, it was very, very difficult to make that choice,” said Councilman Dennis Trudeau.
Briggs spent about two years on the city’s Planning and Zoning Committee, from which he resigned as chairman.
“I want to continue with the Urban Redevelopment Plan and get ahead of the growth bubble here,” he said.
Briggs also is on the Board of Directors of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce and the Family Y.
