Founded: August 2006, moved into current location nine months later.
Known for: “Our tag line is ‘A place of his healing presence,’” Cockrell said. “So we want to be known as a safe place for people to come and experience the presence of the Lord. People say this really is a sanctuary. They feel it is a safe haven in his presence.”
Music: From hymns to the latest contemporary songs. “We have a full choir, a band and a praise team,” Cockrell said. “It’s guitars as well as pianos.”
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about giving your church a try?
“Sometimes people think that a church is too large and they will get lost,” he said. “We really try to make sure people find their place. Don’t let a larger-size church turn you off to giving it a try. We really try to be a friendly and welcoming church.”
What do you believe is the biggest issue facing the faithful today?
“I don’t think there is enough biblical preaching of the scripture in church today,” Cockrell said. “There is very little of the Bible that is taught. Many times today it’s more about the latest movie, and it is important to tie in what is going on in society, but if we don’t use the Bible we can’t teach people the scripture.”
