A crash Thursday afternoon sent one woman to the hospital for observation.

At approximately 3:25 p.m., 84-year-old Betty Leitner was attempting to cross Stevens Creek Road in her 1997 Ford Crown Victoria and ran a stop sign coming out of the Watervale subdivision, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy David Herrity.

Jimmie Bodie, of Evans, was driving his 2005 Ford F-150 truck north on Stevens Creek Road, swerved to avoid Leitner and clipped her right rear quarter panel. Leitner hit the curb and flipped.

“All I saw was a white car come flying by,” said Bodie.

After extricating Leitner from her vehicle, she was transported to Doctor’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Herrity said.

Leitner was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.
