The CSRA Beagle Club’s 14th Annual Barbecue and Trade Day is aimed at more than just beagle owners or rabbit hunters.
The event will be held Saturday, June 8, at the Winfield Community Center, on Cobbham Road west of Ray Owens Road in Winfield. It runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and barbecue chicken plates cost $8.
With the summer months approaching, club members take time out from field trials to hold their annual day of fellowship and fun.
“We’ve picked up quite a few members just by people coming by and becoming interested and wanting to join or wanting to take part in the activity,” said Chuck Terry, the club’s former president and board member and current secretary.
Activities include a demonstration by the Richmond County K-9 unit, adult-supervised archery and BB gun shooting and a beagle bench show. A vendor also will be on hand to sell dog collars and other related items, and beagles will be available for trade or purchase.
The day has evolved over the years.
“The primary purpose originally was a fundraising barbecue and then we incorporated the trade day aspect and then we’ve added activities, focused on the kids more the past few years,” Terry said.
