The Columbia County Library in Evans will have its fourth year of family movie matinees at the Jabez S. Hardin Performing Arts Theater.
The event offers screenings of family-friendly movies at 1 p.m. each Wednesday during June and July, with the exception of July 3. Recent box-office hits such as Ice Age 3: Continental Drift and The Lorax are among the eight films to be shown.
With Zaxby’s, a sponsor of the event, right around the corner, parents can enjoy an afternoon of food and fun with their children, said Stacie Adkins, events manager for Columbia County.
“It’s a good outlet for moms to take advantage of something inexpensive,” she said. “You can pick up lunch at Zaxby’s and go hit a movie. And it’s not going to break the bank to take everyone out.”
The event offers movies that appeal to different age groups, Adkins said. Some movies are geared to 4- to 7-year-olds, such as The Pirates! and Hotel Transylvania, while other movies, such as Journey 2 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, are directed at 7- to 12-year-olds.
The movies aren’t only for children but also the young at heart. Coordinators of the event searched for films for the entire family to enjoy, said Lindsay Waddell, community events specialist for Columbia County.
“They were picking movies they thought would appeal to both the kids and the parents,” she said. “Most of the movies I would choose to watch myself.”
