Columbia County commissioners on Tuesday are expected to approve a bid to improve a troublesome Lewiston Road intersection.
County Construction and Maintenance Division Director Matt Schlachter presented a $307,147 bid from Pittman Construction for modifications to the Lewiston Road intersection with William Few Parkway. The bid came in below the $415,000 budget for the project.
The planned improvements include widening and adding right turn lanes to Lewiston Road, adding turn lanes on William Few Parkway and installing traffic signals to better manage frequent rush-hour backups.
The right turn lane off William Few Parkway will extend down Lewiston Road to the Interstate 20 bridge, Schlachter said.
At a recent Construction and Maintenance Services Committee meeting, Schlachter said construction is only waiting on commissioners to approve the bid and a permit from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
“The minute the permit is on our desk, we are ready to start work,” Schlachter said.
