The Fort Gordon Dinner Theater continues its production of The Fox on the Fairway May 23, 24 and 25. Pictured during rehearsal are Karen Brotherton (from left), Tony Hunt, Ernie Williamson, Robb Smith, Avery Villines and Beth Nuckols.

Avery Villines has performed in her share of not-so-funny comedies, but The Fox on the Fairway is not one of them.

“It’s a blast. Some of the hardest things we’ve had to do are not laugh at each other during rehearsals,” said Villines, who plays Pamela Peabody in this Ken Ludwig farce which will be presented at the Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre May 10, 11, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25. Dinner begins at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m.

Rival country clubs, golf and love are intermingled with witty dialogue and lots of slamming doors.

“This is a tribute to old British farce, an ode to Groucho Marx movies. It has very broad humor and a very classic style,” said director Steve Walpert.

The plot has some twists and turns to keep the audience guessing, and if audience members haven’t laughed enough, then the ending is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

“The curtain call takes things to a new level. We have to do the entire show as fast as humanly possible with no dialogue,” said Villines.

Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre has performed several farces and a few of Ludwig’s shows, including Moon over Buffalo, which garnered the dinner theater numerous Army Festival of Performing Arts awards in 2006.

Tickets cost $45 for adults, $43 for Department of the Army civilians, military retirees and senior citizens 65 years-old and older and Active Duty E7 and above, $35 for Active Duty E6 and below and $30 for the show only. The public is welcome; however, patrons 16 years old and older must have a photo ID. Non-Department of Defense cardholders must enter through Gate 1 with a valid drivers’ license, registration and insurance.
