When the school year ends on Tuesday, Augusta Christian Elementary School Principal Darrell Wells will retire. Again.
Wells, who has served at Augusta Christian for the past 10 years, previously spent 26 years as principal of Dearing Elementary in McDuffie County.
Though he’s leaving Augusta Christian, Wells hopes that his days of serving in the education sector are not over. He is a candidate for a seat on the Board of Education in McDuffie County.
“I prayed about it, have some experience and because I know many people there, I hope we can work together,” Wells said.
Those close to him say that his presence and work at Augusta Christian will be missed.
“His servant’s heart will truly be missed,” said Bonny Baxley, a third-grade teacher. “He’s always looking for ways to help, and is very supportive of the faculty.”
Baxley said his interaction with the students will be missed as well.
“He can tell you the name of every child,” she said. “And he just has a way of seeing the good in people.”
“You grow to love them all,” Wells said.
Wells is equally thankful for what the students and the faculty have given him over the years.
“I appreciate the opportunity to have been here,” he said. “It was a very good place to be and allowed me to see the differences between public and private schools. I’m going to miss the people the most.”
