The Augusta chapter of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and the Greater Augusta Bulldog Club are partnering to host UGA Day in the Augusta area.
One of 12 UGA days spanning four states, this year’s Augusta UGA Day will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.
The event will feature presentations from incoming UGA President Jere Morehead, football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and head basketball coach Mark Fox after a buffet-style dinner.
Chuck Dowdle, a former sportscaster for Atlanta news station WSB-TV, will emcee the event in which UGA officials will provide insight into university news and the upcoming athletic seasons.
Though Morehead is expected to speak, UGA athletics is usually the focus of the event, said John West, president of Augusta’s UGA Alumni Association.
Registration for the event costs $30 per person online and at the event, with tables of eight for $280. The event is free for children younger than 6 years old.
This will be the first year the event will be held at a Columbia County venue, West said.
With 5,000-plus registered UGA alumni living in the greater Augusta area, West said Augusta is usually a stop for UGA Day.
“They select cities based on local alumni and fan support,” he said. “Augusta’s always been a big center for Bulldog support, and so Augusta’s always been on the map and always been a destination for the folks in the UGA Athletics Association.”
West said he expects 200 people to attend.
