On a day set for honoring “superwomen,” a couple of women received superlative awards Wednesday.

Kathy Tuckey, the programming director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Augusta, was named the Columbia County Businesswoman of the Year by the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce during its annual Successful Superwoman’s Brunch.

“Her active role in this area has made a great impression,” said the award’s presenter, Risa Gay, from brunch sponsor Spherion. “Her primary passion has been to (work) for those who cannot live as independently as others and rely on the support of family and friends to give a sense of stability in their lives.”

Tuckey applauded the other women nominated and said she felt honored to be among them.

“What I do everyday is my mission, it’s my passion,” a tearful Tuckey said. “This is just an ordinary person who wants to make a difference, who can maybe see a world someday that will not have Alzheimer’s disease.”

Tuckey’s advocacy has a powerful effect, said Chamber President and CEO Tammy Shepherd.

“She can talk with the top elected officials, our congressmen and senators, about this disease and make a difference. She deserves this honor very much.”

Donna Davis, with EDTS, was named Administrative Professional of the Year.

Davis’ nominator wrote that she “has been a role model for her team and office since the beginning,” Gay said.
