John Hair, one of the owners of The Tackle Box in Martinez, shows some of the Greenfish Tackle lures his company makes and sells.

Jon Hair has parlayed a boyhood dream into what he hopes will become a thriving business in Martinez.

“Opening a tackle shop was my 1997 senior project at Evans High School,” said Hair, 33, standing among display cases in The Tackle Shop at 4009 Columbia Road.

He and his partner, Wil Hardy, 23, of Appling, are developing their own line of fishing tackle, called “Greenfish.” It features custom-made lures such as buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, shaky heads and jigs.

Hardy is a professional angler on the FLW Tour.

Their store, which opened in January, also carries lines of lures that can’t be found in similar stores in the Augusta area, other fishing gear and supplies.

The store’s grand opening will be Friday, April 19, with a ribbon cutting at noon. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
