The other Grovetown High School mock trial team was Alexis Berry (front row, from left), Katie Trimm, Laura Youngquist and Summer Morley; Josh Libbey (back, from left), Colin Berry, Matthew Brown and coach Amanda Heath.
Two teams of students from Grovetown High School were among 12 schools competing in the Regional High School Mock Trial competition in Dalton, Ga., in February. Both teams advanced to the championship rounds and placed second. The team coaches were Augusta Assistant District Attorney Amanda Heath and Assistant Public Defender Tony E. Howard II. The Mock Trial program gives high school students a hands-on approach to learning about the judicial system and the different roles within it. The mock trials are structured similar to actual courts and are bound by similar rules. This is the first mock trial team in the school's history. Shown are Howard (front row, from left), Leanna Christensen, Alexandria Johnson and George Adames; Richard Kelly (back row, from left), Daniel Rodriguez and Desire White.
