A Gotham city landscape has taken form inside Augusta Prep’s Hull Fine Arts Center, and the cast of Augusta Prep’s upcoming production of Guys and Dolls is gearing up for two nights of the presentation this week.
The classic musical will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Hull Center.
The mural backdrop for the production is the brainchild of local professional artist Tom Nakashima, who along with Prep Fine Arts Head Tara Chokshi held a workshop for students to paint the backdrop.
Nakashima also has designed some three-dimensional pieces – including store fronts – to add a
sense of realism to the backdrop.
Tickets cost $10 for students and $12 for adults for those paying by the electronic check online or at the door the night of the event, or $11 for students and $13 for adults for those paying by credit card online at www.augustaprep.org/guysanddolls.
The production also involves the assistance of Jared Moore, a professional lighting designer from Chicago who is working as a designer/consultant for the production.
Moore has been involved in such past productions at Augusta Prep as Anything Goes, Footloose and Grease.
The show also involves the work of choreographer Jessica Bailey, who operates Le Chat Noir in downtown Augusta with her husband, Krys Bailey, and others.
Mostly upper school students will participate in the performance, but middle school students also will take part in the large cast for the presentation.
