Registration for the Columbia County school system’s prekindergarten program for the 2013-14 school year is being held weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at eight of Columbia County’s elementary schools until March 22.
The public school program is offered at Baker Place, Brookwood, Cedar Ridge, Euchee Creek, Grovetown, North Columbia, North Harlem and South Columbia elementary schools. To find out which school to register, search the school system’s Web site at www.ccboe.net and under the Find Your Bus Stop link.
To be eligible for registration, the child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1.
While registering at the appropriate school, parents must bring the child’s original certified birth certificate, the child’s Social Security card and a current gas or electric bill showing the parent’s name and the service address to confirm residence in the appropriate school zone.
Because there are a limited number of spaces in the program, registration will allow parents the opportunity to participate in a drawing March 29 that will determine which students are admitted. Results from the drawings will be posted on the schools’ Web sites at 4 p.m. that day. Parents do not need to attend the drawing.
Parents who register after March 22 will be added to the bottom of the waiting list in the order in which registration forms are completed.
