Hoping to foster diversity through laughter, a pair of comedians will visit Evans this weekend.
The Augusta Jewish Federation will entertain patrons with the event Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Augusta Jewish Community Center, 898 Weinberger Way in Evans. Admission costs $10 and includes a dessert reception.
The show’s headliners include comedians Alyse Kenny, who has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Neal Reddy, who is a regular on The Regular Guys, a popular Atlanta radio program.
The event launches the federation’s fundraising for the year, said Leah Ronen, executive director of the Augusta Jewish Federation.
“We help people in need here in Augusta, in Israel and around the world,” she said.
This is the second year the federation has held a comedy night, Ronen said. Last year, the federation obtained its comedians through the New York Hysterical Society and was so pleased that it decided to work with the society again this year.
The federation described the comedy night as a diversity show.
“This year our comics are Jewish and Hindu,” Ronen said. “We like the idea of diversity.”
She said comedy was a good way to gather people.
“People do need to laugh in a nice, clean, harmless show,” she said. “We like bringing people together.”
Last year, Ronen said more people came to the comedy night than they expected and by word-of-mouth, she said they expect even more people to come this year.
While there will be a will-call desk for people to pay at the door for the show, the federation prefers reservations by Friday, Jan. 31, for the limited number of seats.
