The Augusta Council of Garden Clubs will hold four floral-design classes beginning Jan. 19.
The Saturday classes – slated for Jan. 19, Feb. 2, Feb. 16 and March 2 – will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Georgia State Floral Distributors on Washington Road in Augusta. Participants can browse and purchase from Georgia State Floral Distributors during the sessions, according to ACGC President Judy Kirkland.
Cost of the class is $20 per session, which covers the required textbook, Until II Floral Design for the Beginner. Registration is required at least two weeks prior to the class.
The purpose of the classes, according to the registration form, is to “expose garden club members and others to the basics of flower design with a minimum of expense to them; to help participants feel comfortable with various flower designs and the tools and tricks which aid in designing; to encourage participants to try their hands at design for their own personal use; and to promote more interest and involvement in flower shows.”
The first three classes will include instruction, instructor demonstrations, time for browsing or shopping, and a refreshment break. The final class will be a mini flower show.
Class titles are “Principles and Elements of Design and Traditional Design” and “Flower Show Procedure” on Jan. 19, led by Karen Oliver and Sharyn Altman. The Feb. 2 class will focus on design mechanics, creative designs and table designs and will be led by Linda Boland, Pam Kolb, Beth Wiseman and Barbara Horner. On Feb. 16, participants will learn about various design types.
Registration forms can be downloaded at the Augusta Council of Garden Clubs’ Web site, www.augustacouncilgc.org. Forms should be mailed to Virginia Allen, 2916 Westchester Drive, Augusta, GA 30909.
