Columbia County school hearings

• Two Grovetown High School students went before the school system hearing officer on Nov. 7 for possession and being under the influence of alcohol and were suspended for the remainder of the first semester with the option to attend the Columbia County Alternative School.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 7 for possession and under the influence of alcohol and was suspended for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• An Evans High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 7 for sexual offenses and was expelled for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Lakeside High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 7 for drugs and was suspended for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Lakeside High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 7 for drugs and was suspended for the remainder of the first semester with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown Middle School pupil went before the hearing officer on Nov. 8 for an accumulation of offenses and was expelled for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown Middle School pupil went before the hearing officer on Nov. 8 for fighting and school disruption and was suspended for the remainder of the first semester with the option to attend the alternative school.

• An Evans High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for possession of Midol, Advil and Seroquel and was remanded to the school with time served.

• An Evans High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for possession of prescription drugs and was expelled for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for possession of marijuana and was expelled for the remainder of this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for possession of marijuana and was remanded to the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Committee for punishment.

• A Grovetown High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for felony sexual battery and was remanded to the IEP Committee for punishment.

• A Columbia Middle School pupil went before the hearing officer on Nov. 9 for possession of a knife and was remanded to the school with insufficient evidence.
