On Friday night, before the last Evans football game of the season, community members can decide who in the county makes the best burgers.
The Evans Touchdown Club is sponsoring the Columbia County Burger Boss Competition from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Evans football practice field. Tickets cost $10 and include burger samples and drink from participating establishments. Tasters will vote and the burger deemed “boss” will be honored at halftime.
Tickets may be purchased in advance through the EHS Touchdown Club or Fatz Cafe’.
Money raised will go to the Touchdown Club with 30 percent donated to the Georgia Health Sciences University Cancer Center.
“We were trying to come up with a different type of fundraiser to get more community involvement,” said April Tullis, Evans High School Touchdown Club program sales director and fundraiser coordinator. Tullis is a cancer survivor.
Confirmed restaurants are Red Robin, Fatz Café, Chilis and All Star Burgers. Others are still in the works. Samples are expected to vary from slider size to a third of a Red Robin hamburger.
“By the time you leave here you’re not going to want to eat,” Tullis said.
Local Christian rock group Dayz to Come will provide entertainment.
