Folk-rock band She N She took the title of Columbia County’s top talent act.

The acoustic group was selected Thursday as the winner of Columbia County’s Amateur Series.

As one of several prizes, She N She gets the chance to open for Eddie Money and Starship on Friday at the Lady Antebellum Pavilion. The concert begins at 5 p.m.

“When they said we were opening up for Eddie Money, we were just like ‘This is over the top,’ ” said She N She guitarist and singer Drea Suarez. “We were just thoroughly excited about opening up for Eddie Money.”

Suarez said the concert is another opportunity for the all-female group to reach their fans.

In addition to Suarez, She N She includes Brandy Douglas, Kate Anderson and Shelbie Rae Kersey. Suarez met Douglas in August 2010 after moving to the Augusta area from California. The two started playing music together and formed She N She about a year later.

“It kind of all just fell into place,” Suarez said. “It happened fast.”

She N She performs at various restaurants and events in the area, including Wild Wing Cafe, Pizza Joint and the Arts in the Heart of Augusta festival.

The band also has performed in Atlanta, Savannah and Destin, Fla.

The band competed in Thursday’s finale against four other acts.

“To make it through all the rounds, we were completely excited,” Suarez said. “It just lifted our spirits as a band so much more.”

She N She was named the winner in front of a packed crowd at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center.

“We had a full house,” said Columbia County Rental Facilities and Venues Manager Sandy Boner, who helped organize the program. “It was like watching a Miss America pageant or something.”

Coming in second and third place were Miranda P. and Dayz to Come, respectively.

“There were people in the audience waiting for the announcement to be made with their hands on their cheeks, just leaning on the edge of their seats waiting to see who it was,” Boner said. “It was a pretty exciting time.”

As the winner, She N She also gets to try out in front of the America’s Got Talent judges and receives studio time, a professional photo shoot and other prizes.
