Columbia County school hearings

• A Columbia County Alternative School special needs student went before the school system hearing officer on Oct. 2 for theft and was expelled for the remainder of this school year’s first semester and was sent to the alternative school for the second semester.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 4 for under the influence of drugs and was remanded to the school for insufficient evidence.

• A Grovetown High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 4 for possession/distribution of over-the-counter drugs and was remanded to the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Committee for punishment.

• A Grovetown Middle School pupil went before the hearing officer on Oct. 2 for theft and was given long-term out-of-school suspension and in-school suspension for 15 days.

• A Lakeside High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 2 for an off-campus misdemeanor and was remanded to the IEP Committee for punishment.

• A Lakeside High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 2 for disorderly conduct and was remanded to the IEP Committee for punishment.

• Two Lakeside High School students went before the hearing officer on Oct. 5 for possession of a BB gun and were expelled for this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.
