The Screen on the Green series returns to Columbia County on Friday with a pair of family-friendly movies at the Columbia County Amphitheater behind the Evans library.
Now in its fourth year, the movie series has evolved into an event for families and adults, said county Community Events Manager Keela Colombraro.
“We started out just really doing kid- and family-friendly movies,” she said. “For the last two years, I wanted to show one movie that was for kids and then one movie more for the adults just to keep it fair.”
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, rated PG, will be shown Friday on a 30-foot-tall inflatable screen at the amphitheater. The Hunger Games, which has a PG-13 rating, is scheduled for Sept. 28.
“It’s only $1,” Colombraro said. “You can’t go see a movie any cheaper than that.”
Children 3 and younger get in for free. Gates open at 7 p.m. on both nights and the movies begin at dark.
Colombraro encourages guests to bring blankets and chairs but not outside food or drinks. Concessions can be purchased at the event, she said.
The series is popular among families, Colombraro said.
“There’s not as much going on this time of year,” she said. “Things are kind of starting to settle down, and the kids are going back to school.
The amphitheater is a good choice for the series, Colombraro said, because it’s in a private setting.
Donations of coats, blankets, gloves, hats and scarves for WRDW News 12’s Time to Care Warm-A-Thon, benefiting the Garden City Rescue Mission, will be collected.
