Karaoke is coming to the Columbia County Amphitheater.
A karaoke contest will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the venue, located behind the Evans library.
“Whether you want to participate in the contest or not, you can still just get up there and do it,” said county Community Events Specialist Keela Colombraro. “You don’t have to sign up for the actual contest.”
Singers can choose from thousands of songs, Colombraro said, adding that all genres of music are allowed as long as the lyrics are “clean.”
The event is open to all ages.
“It’s a great way to go out with your friends and be able to laugh at yourself and each other,” Colombraro said of karaoke.
Admission is free and guests can purchase food, beer and wine.
Those wishing to participate in the contest can sign up as they enter the amphitheater.
The contest will begin at about 8:30 p.m. The audience will be told which singers are competing as they walk onto the stage.
Small prizes will be given to winners chosen by impartial judges, Colombraro said.
“It’s all just for fun,” she said. “It’s more for bragging rights than anything.”
Colombraro said if the event is well-attended, the county will offer it again next year.
