First Bank of Georgia will soon be coming to Evans.
Plans are under way to build the third First Bank of Georgia in Columbia County. The full-service bank will be on a corner parcel in front of Kroger on Washington Road.
“Our plan was always to expand into Evans,” said bank president and CEO Remer Brinson III. “It’s a great market.
“We’ve got a lot of customers in Evans already.”
The bank has owned the property for the past
decade, Brinson said, adding that the initial goal was to build the new branch in 2008 before the economy declined.
While a date for the groundbreaking has not been set, the new bank could open late this year or in early 2013, according to a First Bank of Georgia press release.
The office is estimated to be between 3,000 and 3,500 square feet.
“This branch will allow us to continue to serve existing customers as well as obtain new customer relationships,” Brinson said.
First Bank of Georgia currently offers banking services in six locations throughout Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond counties.
Brinson said the bank focused on growing its current branches before building another one.
“We think now’s the time,” he said. “We’re optimistic about the future and about business in general.”
