Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal will speak in Martinez Tuesday at a breakfast held to raise awareness about a new regional 1-percent sales tax for transportation.
Deal will give remarks at a breakfast sponsored by the Georgia Transportation Alliance, a Georgia Chamber of Commerce entity established to promote the T-SPLOST referendum.
The 7:30 a.m. breakfast takes place at West Lake Country Club. The cost to attend the breakfast ranges from a "suggested" minimum contribution of $500 to $50,000 for platinum sponsors.
Columbia County has eight projects listed in the referendum, including completing the extension of Riverwatch Parkway and widening Robinson Avenue.
A referendum on the tax goes before voters July 31.

No One Was Left To Speak For Me
There are no shortages of people (government officials, Chamber of Commerce officials, road-building company officials, etc.) to speak up for the new T-SPLOST tax. We will have town hall meetings, rallies, breakfasts, talk radio guest appearances, and so on. But who will speak up for taxpayers against the new tax?
We are taxed enough, already. TEA Party, where are you?
LL - Stay Tuned, Tea Party is not the only Foe
You should have been at the Wednesday forum. The officials got hammered.
The numbers they are using are a huge lie
But then this is Nathan Deal remember.
Anyone who gives Deal $50,000
Anyone who gives Deal $50,000 at the breakfast or for that matter the minimum $500 should be scrutinized carefully about their interests in this T-SPLOST money.
Advocacy
I think it is highly unethical for a government official to advocate on one side or the other in a tax referendum. Elected officials should be required to remain silent, since they have a conflict of interest.
#5 on List of Most Corrupt In Congress
Deal is unethical. In fact his henchman got rid of the 2 professional staff at State Ethics immediately after Deal was brought up on ethics charges. It was said the state did not have money to pay them and cut their pay 40%. About 2 weeks later Staff Chief Robinson's girlfriend who has a non medical degree was appointed to state board of psychiatry and given more than 100% pay increase. You cannot make this stuff up in the most corrupt state in America.
