Families can escape the heat to catch a movie indoors each Wednesday in June and July at the Columbia County Library.
The fifth annual Family Movie Matinee series starts June 6 inside the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center at the Evans library.
“Even though it’s in a smaller venue, it’s one of the most popular air-conditioned events that we have throughout the summer,” said county Community Events Specialist Virginia Atkins.
Each movie is free, family-friendly and has a PG rating. The movies begin at 1 p.m.
The movie lineup consists of The Adventures of Tintin on Wednesday; Hoot on June 13; Dolphin Tale on June 20; Mr. Popper’s Penguins on June 27; Megamind on July 11; We Bought a Zoo on July 18; and Puss in Boots on July 25.
While food and drinks are not allowed in the library’s theater, Atkins said patrons can grab a snack after or before the movie at the cafe inside the library.
Atkins said the movie series gives parents another option for entertaining their children during the summer break.
The series typically brings more than 200 guests to the library per movie, she said.
“It’s just a nice afternoon outing in air conditioning,” Atkins said.
