Memorial Day will come and go without Columbia County’s annual Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration, but the popular tribute to the nation’s military men and women won’t disappear.
The event will be held on Nov. 10 – the Saturday before Veterans Day.
“We’ve been asked for years why we don’t do something around Veterans Day,” said county Recreation and Events Manager Stacie Adkins.
The celebration started in 2001 and usually features speakers, a patriotic concert from the U.S. Signal Corps Band and a fireworks show.
This year will be the 12th annual celebration, though it was cancelled because of rain in 2009 and 2010.
May is a busy month for festivals and events, Adkins said. Pops! Under the Stars was May 12.
Banjo-B-Que, which moved from the Hippodrome in North Augusta, is May 25-26.
Thunder Over Augusta, also a new event for the Evans Towne Center Park, was held Saturday.
“We wanted to move something to a time in our calendar that wasn’t as busy and still could recognize our military,” Adkins said.
