The creative juices will flow Saturday as artists and appreciators gather for Art in the Park.

The seventh annual arts festival, put on by Columbia County Arts Inc., will include painters, jewelers, fiber artists and weavers creating works live at the event.

“I think it’s fun because it inspires people,” said Cyndy Epps, chairwoman of the event and former president of the Artists’ Guild of Columbia County.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Columbia County Amphitheater and Memorial Gardens behind the Evans library.

Artist demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day.

Tents will be set up for art and food vendors and community organizations, Epps said. There will be arts and crafts activities for children.

“It’s a great time,” Columbia County Arts Inc. President Rob Nordan said. “Of course, all ages can enjoy it.”

The popular Sidewalk Chalk Contest is returning for the fourth year.

“There are some pretty amazing artists and it’s really exciting to watch (the artwork) emerge throughout the day,” Epps said.

The sidewalk chalk contest starts at 10 a.m. and judging will begin at 4 p.m. The fee is $15 to enter in one of the three age categories – 12 and under, 13-18, and 18 and over – and includes sidewalk space and chalk.

Epps said 10 Columbia County schools will be participating in the contest. School teams can win $100 for their art programs.

“It’s our way of trying to help out the schools,” Epps said.

Live entertainment will be on the amphitheater stage during the day, beginning with the Columbia County Ballet’s Mayfest at 10 a.m.

Entertainment ranges from musical theater and orchestral music to Irish dancers and cloggers.

The band Awaken will perform 4-4:45 p.m. with artists painting live on stage.
