Appling charity holding cajun benefit dinner

Posted: April 14, 2012 - 11:01pm

The Columbia County Foundation for Children is holding its annual Spring Fling Benefit Dinner on Thursday.

Monday is the last day to buy tickets for the dinner, which will be catered by French Market Grille West.

“It’s good food,” said foundation board of directors member Michel Young.

Dinners will be available for dine-in or take-out 4-7 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 825 N. Belair Road, Evans.

Tickets cost $8 each or $15 for a pair. The dinner includes a choice of grilled chicken or low country boil, a salad, red beans and rice, and tea. Desserts also will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the dinner go toward the foundation’s Barbara C. Beazley Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“This is the primary fundraiser,” said Young, adding all other foundation functions are funded by donations or proceeds from its thrift shop. “We just like to get the word out about the foundation.”

The foundation provides Christmas gifts for many children and supports families in need. The group also distributed 15 scholarships in 2011, Young said.

Applications are available on the foundations Web site. Applicants should be Columbia County residents up to age 23. The amount of the need-based scholarship varies according to the student’s individual finances, Young said.
