A new recycling center might soon come to an Evans park.
Columbia County commissioners on Tuesday likely will approve a more than $316,000 bid from Evans-based Continental Construction to build the recycling center at Riverside Park on Hardy-McManus Road.
County Construction and Maintenance Services Director Matt Schlachter said the center will be similar to one on William Few Parkway. That manned location opened in September 2009 and contains bins for electronics, plastics, newspapers and magazines, aluminum cans, food cans, and cardboard and office paper. Additional bins for plastic and newspapers are at the Evans Government Complex.
Schlachter said the Riverside Park center will be larger than the one on William Few Parkway and will include an office for county Green Programs Manager Jenny Hinson.
The new recycling center also will cost more than expected.
Initially, officials only budgeted $265,000 to build the center, according to county documents.
Funds to build the center come from the 2006-10 1-percent sales tax, along with money from the Solid Waste Fund might also be used.
